Secretary to the Ministry Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa went on an inspection tour to the Secretariat of Personal Identification new building complex which is now undergoing constructions at a rapid phase in Battaramulla today (18th Sep).

Since the ceremonial laying of foundation stone by Hon. Speaker of the Parliament, Chamal Rajapaksa on 7th July 2014, construction work continues in a speedy track. Once completed, 20 storied office complexes would house the Department of Immigration and Emigration, and the Department of Registration of Persons.

The 700,000 sq feet building complex would also includes state of the art security system, automatic building management system, public address facility, internal CCTV, and cutting edge fire fighting and control systems.

'ICC - DG51 Joint Venture (Pvt) Ltd' has entrusted with the construction work and would be expected to complete by 30th June next year. Estimated cost of the entire project is approximately Rs. 7555 million. Power Point Presentation depicting the construction progress was also presented to the Secretary Defence during the session.

State institutions that are being shifted to the administrative capital (Sri Jayawardenepura) would house with the latest facilities within the city suburbs. These initiatives would also facilitate to transform Colombo to a well-managed, clean, green, people friendly and a sustainable city while fitting to the future development desires.

Officials of the Defence Ministry, Urban Development Authority, Department of Registration of Persons and members of the construction company accompanied the visiting official.
